I love the styrofoam nests you find product safely nestled in, often a fun pop of color in the market stands, and they are such a fun challenge to draw. This piece features my favorite lenbu (or wax apple, java apple, rose apple?) fruits in all their watery red-green hue transitions.
This was painted one autumn when my father unexpectedly found himself in the hospital and I was left to wander Taipei alone for the first time in my life. I took my watercolor set with me and painted scenes from my daily trips, and would come back to the hospital room for dinner, and we’d talk about my paintings and what I’d seen. This series of postcards I painted always reminds me of that oddly cozy show-and-tell at his bedside during a heavy time of uncertainty.
