My art studio is on the edge of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Near-daily walks to the post office, to AA Bakery for a fluffy pork sung cake, and explorations of the infinite alleyways always provide me with plenty of eye candy, particularly for the New Year. For this piece, I set about in search of over-the-top decorations and clothing, the flashier the better, but also the grounding elements of nature and food: the pomelo skin in a gradation of chartreuse-yellow-ochre, the roast of fish scales still shimmering under a mass of scallions and goji berries.

My signature concertina journals provide a narrative of time as each leaf unfolds. Display as a book or as a panoramic. No framing needed—simply stand on your favorite shelf, table, or mantlepiece.
